Dr Shawn Baker

Shawn Baker is an American orthopedic surgeon and the most visible physician advocate of the strict carnivore diet. Born in 1967, he holds an MD from Texas Tech University (2001), completed orthopaedic residency, and served as a major in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to meat-only eating in his late forties and went on to break a series of indoor rowing world records on the Concept2 (including age-group 500-metre and one-minute marks), documenting the shift publicly over time.

His 2019 book "The Carnivore Diet" (Victory Belt) is the most-cited introductory text in the space. He founded MeatRx as a coaching community — since rebranded under Revero, the clinical platform he co-founded that offers doctor-supervised carnivore care. His New Mexico medical license was revoked in 2017 on grounds of "failure to report adverse action" and "incompetence to practice as a licensee", and reinstated in 2019 with stipulations. He has discussed the history publicly and continues to host the long-running "Dr. Shawn Baker Podcast", in active production since 2020.
